Video 5 - Removing the Clutch

Like many converters I removed the clutch from my conversion. This simplifies the gearbox-to-motor connection and reduces weight.

Some converters keep their clutches in so that gear changes are smooth, even though most EVs rarely need to change gear due to the torque of the motor. For example, I did most of my driving in 2nd gear alone from 0mph to 40mph!

Keeping the clutch does add a little more complexity – and extra complexity means extra cost. Both options have advantages and disadvantages. I've covered this area in detail with photos and videos in my ebook, available for download at www.evsecrets.com if you're interested.
